Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it and what you can do about it.

Last updated: 28 October 2026

Dune Wars ("we", "us") runs the online game at dunewars.net. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site or play the game, and how we use it. By using Dune Wars you agree to this policy and our Terms of Service.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

  • Your username, email address and chosen faction when you register.
  • Your password, which is stored as a one-way hash. We never store or see your actual password.

Gameplay information

  • Your in-game progress, resources, units, battles, alliance membership and rankings.
  • Messages you send to other players, alliance posts and notes. Staff may review these when investigating reports or rule breaks.
  • A log of in-game actions, used for game balance, support and cheat detection.

Technical and security information

  • Your IP address, browser user agent and the time of your visits.
  • Device and browser details such as screen resolution, timezone, language and platform, combined into a device fingerprint.

We use this technical information to keep the game fair: it helps us detect multiple accounts, account sharing, bots and fraud. It is not used for advertising.

Linked accounts

  • If you link a Discord or Steam account, we store the linked account ID and the basic profile details needed to connect it to your game account.

Payments

  • Donations are handled by PayPal. We receive confirmation of the payment, the amount and the PayPal email or transaction ID. We never receive or store your card or bank details.

2. Cookies

We use cookies to keep you logged in (a session cookie) and to remember basic preferences. Third-party services on our site also set their own cookies:

  • Google reCAPTCHA on the login, register and contact forms, to block bots.
  • Google Ads / Google Analytics (gtag), to measure visits and advertising performance.
  • Google AdSense, if ads are shown, which may use cookies to show relevant ads.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but you will not be able to log in without the session cookie.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To run your account and the game.
  • To send account emails such as activation and password resets.
  • To enforce the rules and prevent cheating, multi-accounting and fraud.
  • To answer support requests sent through the contact form.
  • To improve game balance and fix bugs.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Who We Share It With

We only share information with the services needed to run the game: Google (reCAPTCHA, analytics and ads), PayPal (donations), Discord and Steam (if you link them), and our hosting provider. We may also share information if required by law, or to protect players and the game from fraud or abuse.

Your username, faction, rankings and other public profile details are visible to other players.

5. How Long We Keep It

We keep your account information while your account exists. Security logs are kept only as long as needed to detect abuse and are cleaned up regularly. When an account is deleted, its personal information is removed, but anonymous game records such as past battle logs may remain.

6. Your Rights

You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you. Email [email protected] from the email address on your account, or use the contact form. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California), you may have additional rights under local law.

7. Children

Dune Wars is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

8. Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including password hashing and access controls. No online service is completely secure, so use a unique password for your game account.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will change, and major changes will be announced in game.

10. Contact

Questions about this policy can be sent to [email protected].
